Move a Collection from My Laptop to My Main Computer?

In the Library module, go to the Collections panel, and Right-click on the collection you want to move to another computer. In the pop-up menu that appears, choose Export this Collection as a Catalog, as shown above. This brings up a standard Save dialog, where you can name this catalog (I always name mine the same name as it appears in Lightroom, so I would name this one Dubai, just like you see in my Collections panel), but below the naming and saving part, make sure Export Negative Files (so the actual photos will move along with the catalog) and Include Available Previews (so the thumbnails go along, as well) are turned on. The center choice, Build/Include Smart Previews is optional (I usually leave this off myself). Now, click Export Catalog and it saves the images, thumbnail previews, and the catalog file of just that one collection in one nice tidy folder. Copy that entire folder onto an external hard drive, USB drive, etc., and then plug that drive into your other computer, and copy that folder onto your main computer (or onto your external drive, if that’s where you store your photos). Then, go under Lightroom’s File menu and choose Import from Another Catalog. Navigate to the catalog you just copied onto that computer, choose it, and click Import, and that collection is added to Lightroom on your main computer with all the changes, edits, and organization you applied on your laptop still intact, as if you created it here in the first place. Once it’s imported, you can delete the catalog you copied onto your new drive, but do not delete the actual images, because…well…those are the real actual images.
